Strategic Plan

Mission Statement

The American Society of Transplantation is an international organization of professionals dedicated to advancing the field of transplantation and improving patient care by promoting research, education, advocacy, and organ donation.

Research Goal

  1. Expand research portfolio funding.
  2. Improve the quality of clinical research and clinical trials in transplantation.
  3. Support emerging science relevant to transplantation.
  4. Develop a basic science core curriculum.

Public Policy Goal

  1. Expand organ donation policy initiatives on the Hill and with regulatory agencies.
  2. Establish lifetime immunosuppressive drug coverage for all transplant recipients.
  3. Develop and maintain collaborations with government agencies on transplant related issues.
  4. Support increased transplant research funding.

Organ Donation Goal

  1. Expand organ donation awareness across under-represented populations and the lay public..
  2. Develop strategic alliances with other organizations involved in organ donation.
  3. Encourage expansion of the donor pool by removing financial disincentives to organ donation, developing consensus on incentives for donation, and supporting other strategies.
  4. Develop best practices around the evaluation and care of the live donor.
  5. Monitor the ASTS deceased donation research project.

Education Goal

  1. Build a strong educational portfolio that meets the needs of the membership and transplant community.
  2. Maintain and develop strategic alliances with key stakeholder organizations.
  3. Build knowledge and educational resources for all constituencies with an emphasis on building content.

Membership Goal

  1. Identify and address member constituency gaps.
  2. Continue to assess and optimize the value of AST membership.
