The history of the AST starts in 1981, when the charter members met at the annual meeting of the American Society of Nephrology (ASN). It was at this meeting where they decided that a separate society was to be organized for transplant physicians. The American Society of Transplant Physicians (ASTP) was founded on May 10, 1982 and was a society open to physicians and health professionals who were interested in transplantation medicine and biology.
We encourage anyone with anecdotes or recollections of the early years of AST to please contact the AST staff, at info@myAST.org to share your stories.
The American Society of Transplantation is an international organization of professionals dedicated to advancing the field of transplantation and improving patient care by promoting research, education, advocacy, and organ donation.
