December 3, 2015

AST members,

Please take a moment to thank your members of congress and advocate for FY 2016 NIH research funding levels. Final appropriations are being voted on within the next week.

As you may be aware, Congress reached a two year budget agreement earlier this year that significantly reduces the negative impact of sequestration, providing additional funding for federal programs. However, reaching this deal was only the first step. Congress is now in the final stages of approving FY 2016 funding levels for the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Take this opportunity to thank your member of congress for their work and advocate for increased funding ($32 billion minimum level) to advance medical and health research.

Although the AST's government relations team continues to advocate for a minimum NIH funding level of $32 billion in FY 2016, all politics ultimately go back to local concerns and issues voiced within the Congressional districts and States represented by each and every member of congress. Your local viewpoint matters.

Please take a moment to visit the ResearchAmerica website and send a constituent letter to your members of congress as soon as possible.

The U.S. Congress is finalizing the FY 2016 federal funding package may vote on a final bill within the next week.
