With the adoption of the AST’s Statement on Racism in June 2020, AST extended its mission to work in support of the elimination of systemic racism in the field of transplantation and made a commitment to organizational change to elevate the issues of diversity and equity within the Society.
The Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access to Life (IDEAL) Task Force, established to spearhead AST’s evolution in this area, reviewed the AST Achievement Awards program prior to the launch of the 2021 Awards cycle. The IDEAL Task Force identified an opportunity to recognize members whose work has made a significant impact on increasing equity and reducing racial disparities in transplantation.
The new Advancing Equity in Organ Transplantation Award will recognize an individual whose work has made a significant impact on increasing equity and reducing racial disparities in transplantation.
Other new awards were created for the 2021 cycle for members who are exclusively clinically or administratively focused. Learn more about these awards here.
Nominations for the 2021 AST Achievement Awards opened on November 17th, 2020. Eligibility criteria for all AST Achievement Awards can be found here.
