AST, representing the majority of professionals engaged in the field of solid organ transplantation, applauds and strongly supports U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) on the reintroduction of The American Cures Act.
AST has worked closely with Sen. Durbin and others in Congress for many years to support a more robust funding platform for research. The transplant community is grateful for Sen. Durbin’s leadership and steadfast commitment to advancing biomedical research and scientific innovation.
Sen. Durbin statement upon introduction of the American Cures Act: "Transplant physicians know well the importance of federal investments in biomedical research, and the potential of that research not just to save money and create jobs, but to save lives. I appreciate AST’s support of the American Cures Act, and I encourage its members – and all biomedical research stakeholders – to contact their Members of Congress and urge them to cosponsor this critical legislation."
Years of stagnant federal investment in biomedical research continues to compromise our nation’s ability to innovate and discover new treatments and cures. Without change, the absence of a predictable and consistent stream of support will undoubtedly diminish our global standing as a leader in biomedical research.
