AST member, Dr. Tim Taber, transplant nephrologist at Indiana University Health, has helped edit the book, "Kidney Steps: A 5-Step Survival Guide for People with Diabetes, Hypertension, or Kidney Issues". The book was written by Vicki Hulett and her daughter and donor, Jennifer Waybright. The book aims to help patients avoid chronic kidney disease or slow its progression by reducing diabetes risk and high blood pressure, two leading causes of CKD (chronic kidney disease).
Dr. Taber's help was solicited to ensure the book's accuracy. Dr. Taber stated in an article of the The Student Operated Press on Sept. 20th, that the book is very personal and it discusses dealing with kidney disease and teaches others how to preserve kidney function. The book is available for sale online through Amazon.com and other channels. A website, www.kidneysteps.com, is also being developed to provide patients with the latest information and to allow patients and donors to connect and share stories.
