The AST was saddened to hear about the recent passing of transplant surgeon, George Melville Williams, MD (1930 – 2020). Dr. Williams passed away on August 26, 2020, at the age of 89.
Dr. Williams initiated a transplantation program and became Chief of Transplantation and Vascular Surgery at Johns Hopkins. He also held leadership roles in several medical societies, which included being the first UNOS president and a former president of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons.
