We are gearing up to host the 2023 Fellows Symposium on Transplantation, which will take place this September in Grapevine, TX.
This meeting is dedicated to empowering fellows and residents in the field of transplantation and providing them with a platform to connect with senior faculty, expand their networks, and participate in expert-led sessions.
Be sure to inform your colleagues about this excellent opportunity. The deadline to apply is August 9.
The Fellows Symposium is a great opportunity for fellows to jump-start their careers. Many past attendees have become leaders in transplantation and the AST. To showcase the meeting’s impact, AST board member Dr. Deirdre Sawinski shared her experience with the Symposium and its impact on her career.
From the Fellows Symposium to the AST Board of Directors
It has been more than 15 years since I attended the Fellows Symposium in Grapevine, Texas, yet it is hard to overstate the impact that meeting has had on my career. Unlike any meeting I had previously attended, it was one entirely tailored to and centered around trainees, clearly demonstrating how important we were to the AST.
But what made it so remarkable wasn’t the high quality of the lectures and discussions but the chance to spend time socially with the people who I had previously only known as authors of the papers that shape the practice in our field.
The Fellows Symposium meeting emboldened me to reach out to other transplant professionals and build my own community within AST. Years later, Fellows is still my absolute favorite meeting to attend as a faculty member, and I can’t wait for the chance to meet, teach, and stay in touch with this September’s group of attendees.

Support the Meeting
The Fellows Symposium is a vital component of the AST's strategic plan, as the participating fellows represent the future of transplant medicine. Our commitment to developing the workforce shines at this yearly event; however, the Society incurs significant expenses in providing travel grants for attendees. On average, the cost of sending one fellow to the meeting amounts to $1,500. Please consider helping us reach our goal of $15,000 by donating to the "Fund a Fellow" campaign and share with us your commitment to the future of transplantation.
