The American Society of Transplantation (AST) recently added two new executives to the management team: Mike Boudreau as chief operating officer and Shandie Covington as executive director.
As chief operating officer, Boudreau will oversee the AST staff and manage internal operations. Boudreau has 20 years of experience managing multi-site teams, directing operations professionals, and improving customer satisfaction. Prior to joining the AST, Boudreau worked at Xerox, Inc. as an account operations manager, directing contracted services and managing service teams.
“I am thrilled to become a part of this important group,” said Boudreau. “I believe my success as a collaborative problem solver and my ability to drive process improvements will be a strong addition to this team. I'm excited to contribute to the AST’s continued success.”
As executive director, Covington will take the lead on strategic initiatives and governance. Covington comes to the AST from a 13-year career at the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS). In her most recent role as UNOS policy manager, she worked on the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies governing the national organ recovery and transplant system. Additionally, Covington has been a member of the AST since 2010.
“I am excited about this opportunity to serve fellow AST members and broaden the AST’s impact in the field of transplantation,” said Covington. “I look forward to working with many familiar faces as well as meeting new ones.”
Both Boudreau and Covington will report to Libby McDannell, executive vice president of the 3,500-member transplantation society.
“Mike’s demonstrated success in increasing workplace efficiency and Shandie’s proven leadership and deep sense of commitment to the field of transplantation will be huge assets to our team,” said McDannell. “The AST is on the cusp of change. As we move into new areas and expand our reach, we are glad to have Mike and Shandie on board to help guide the AST.”
Dr. Allan, AST president, confirmed, “Shandie and Mike have complementary skills that will allow the AST to advance several key initiatives in the coming year.”
