Major policy changes have recently occurred that influence the transplant ecosystem, including the HRSA OPTN Modernization Initiative, new payment models, federal directives for new data collection, quality measures for transplant centers and Organ Procurement Organizations, and continuous distribution allocation policies. The overarching goal of the AST Cutting Edge of Transplantation 2025 is to discuss changes that have gone into effect and envision opportunities for the future. Discussions will include members of the transplant community including payors, clinicians, health systems, regulators, payors, researchers, patients, community members, and industry. Some of the topics include but are not limited to 1) the future of data to drive modernization, 2) the future of organ utilization, 3) the allocation system and the new OPTN expeditious Task Force, 4) OPOs of tomorrow, 5) a debate about the top priorities of the field, and 6) who will pay for modernization of the transplant system.
