Communities of Practice (COPs) are vital parts of the American Society of Transplantation (AST), providing education, networking, collaboration, and other resources for their members.
Each COP is governed by an Executive Committee (EC) elected by that COP’s members. The primary role of the EC is to define and plan COP initiatives and lead the COP.
Annual COP elections are an opportunity to become involved in AST leadership. A position on a COP EC allows AST members to contribute to COP and AST initiatives and to lead colleagues within their specialty area. They are seen as subject matter experts in areas such as manuscripts, educational content, and policy comments.
Eligibility
- COP Members must self-nominate to be considered for an EC position. Feel free to encourage potential leaders to nominate themselves by filling out the Self-Nomination Form.
- To self-nominate for an EC position:
- You must be an AST member in good standing (new member or renewed membership for 2023 by December 31, 2022)
- You must be a current member of the COP you are self-nominating for by December 31, 2022
- NEW REQUIREMENT: You must fill out a COI disclosure form if you have not done so recently
- An individual may only be on the election ballot for one open position. Therefore, if an individual self-nominates for more than one position, they will be asked to choose one preferred position.
- An Individual may not self-nominate for a position they have previously filled, with the exception of someone who has served less than half of a term to fill a vacancy.
- An Individual may not self-nominate for a position if they are an employee of a pharmaceutical or biotech company or other company that is in the business of transplantation or if they serve as a full-time “for-profit” consultant.
Responsibilities
- Review the committee position descriptions to become familiar with the responsibilities.
- Elected officials’ terms will be effective June 5, 2023, immediately following the AST Town Hall at the 2023 American Transplant Congress.
