Faculty Disclosures

All speakers, moderators, and planning committee members involved in an AST educational activity (live or electronic) must disclose any and all relevant financial relationships* of any amount occurring within the past 12 months that they or their spouse/partner have with any commercial interest, defined as an entity producing, marketing, re-selling, or distributing health care goods or services consumed by, or used on, patients. *A relevant financial relationship means the relationship(s) creates a potential conflict of interest relevant to the content of the educational activity. Any real or perceived conflict of interest must be resolved prior to finalizing the program. Speakers must also disclose any off label uses of any products they may mention during their presentation.

The AST Conflict of Interest (COI) Committee is responsible for reviewing all disclosures of potential conflicts of interest made by speakers, moderators, and planning committee members. The COI Committee must determine for each reported relationship whether or not that relationship represents an actual conflict of interest relevant to the content of the educational activity, or represents no conflict of interest. If a relationship is found to represent an actual conflict of interest, steps must be taken to resolve/remove the potential conflict of interest. Possible resolutions include altering the nature of the faculty member's relationship with the commercial interest, altering the content of the presentation, or replacing the faculty member.

Reported disclosures and resolutions (if applicable) are displayed below for all AST educational activities; faculty with no reported financial relationships are listed as having no relationships to disclose. Each speaker must also include a disclosure notification at the start of his/her activity and accompany the visual notification with a verbal disclosure if possible; faculty with no reported financial relationships must indicate that they have no relationships to disclose. Additionally, all educational activities will be systematically surveyed for audience perception of bias as part of the post-activity evaluation. Moderators will also be asked to provide feedback from their sessions.

If you have concerns about a conflict of interest related issue, please contact AST staff at info@myAST.org to reach the Conflict of Interest Committee.
