Mom to an amazing 2 year old who received a heart transplant at 4 months old. My journey into the transplant community came unexpectedly and sudden. Welcoming a child into the world and finding out she needs a heart transplant are two things I never thought to be combined. Our daughter was postnatally diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) mitral stenosis/aortic atresia and bilateral SVC’s at 2 days old. We also learned she was not a candidate for the 3 palliative surgeries for single ventricle patients. We spent our first 9 months in the hospital, countless pokes, cath’s, X-ray’s, and 6 open heart surgeries in her first 7 months.
I have spent my last 2 years learning, advocating for our daughter, and hanging on to a community I never knew existed.
My advocacy interests include those around Congenital Heart Disease, addressing the financial barriers associated with post transplant care, and improving the efficacy and long term success of transplant medications.
