Lara Danziger-Isakov, MD, MPH

At Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, I am Professor of Pediatrics and Director of the Immunocompromised Infectious Disease Program. My research focuses on outcomes related to infection after pediatric transplantation with an emphasis on respiratory viruses, fungal infection, and vaccine-preventable illness, including live-viral vaccination after transplantation. Over the past two decades, I have been exceptionally fortunate to volunteer within AST to pursue its mission of advancing the field of transplantation and improving patient care by promoting research, education, advocacy, organ donation, and service to the community. As a recipient of the 2012 AST Clinical Science Career Development Award, I can attest to the impact our society's research grant support has on emerging researchers. Some examples of my engagement in AST include service on the Education (2010-13), Grants (2014-17), and Awards (2024-27) Committees, as ID Community of Practice Chair (2018-20), and as co-editor of the IDCOP Guidelines for Transplant ID. During my time as ID COP Chair, we were able to expand member engagement opportunities with new work groups focused on HIV, drug-resistant infections, quality improvement, and pediatric ID. In addition, we expanded our support for fellow's travel grants to promote the development and engagement of our future colleagues. More recently, I volunteered on the AST COVID-19 Taskforce, providing community outreach and working with other transplant societies to coordinate recommendations based on emerging data. In addition to my service at AST, I have been active in policy development focused on reducing the risk for donor-related disease transmission while safely expanding the donor pool as Chair of the Ad Hoc Disease Transmission Advisory Committee (DTAC) of the OPTN.
