Larry B. Melton, MD, PhD
Dr. Melton is the Medical Director of Organ Transplant at Hackensack UMC in New Jersey. He was previously the Medical Director of Kidney/Pancreas transplant at the Simmons Transplant Institute, Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, TX. His interests are kidney and pancreas transplantation, combined liver/kidney transplantation and kidney function in liver disease. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Nephrology and Critical Care Medicine.
He attended Baylor University followed by graduate work at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Dallas where he earned a PhD in physiology. He went to medical school at the University of Texas Medical School in San Antonio and did his internship and residency at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas. He then moved to Boston, MA where he did his nephrology and transplant training at the Beth Israel Hospital and remained on the faculty at Harvard Medical School for a year after completion of his training. Following that, Dr. Melton took a position in Dallas where he worked with the transplant program at Baylor University Medical Center and was a senior member of Dallas Nephrology Associates.
He was President of the Texas Transplantation Society and is active in the American Society of Transplantation (AST). He has served on the Board of Directors for the AST, as Chair of the Transplant Accreditation Committee, and on several other committees. He remains active on the AST Public Policy Committee.
