Reaffirmation of AST's Commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging

The American Society of Transplantation reaffirms its commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

In light of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Students for Fair Admissions v. Presidents and Fellows of Harvard College, we reaffirm our recognition that ongoing racial and ethnic inequities in the healthcare workforce contribute to disparities in access to healthcare, quality of care, and patient outcomes.

The AST strives to develop a diverse workforce of transplant professionals that reflects the patient population we serve. This is reflected in our strategic plan’s aim to Develop the Workforce, improving the diversity of transplant professionals and scientists to better serve the needs of the diverse patient population.

Therefore, per our Statement on Racism: “as a fundamental extension of the AST mission, we stand resolute in our commitment to eradicate systemic racism in all forms, eliminate racial disparities, elevate collegial diversity, deconstruct barriers to a culture of racial equality, and hold the transplant community accountable to zero-tolerance for racism.”

As we move forward, we are resolute in our support of a diverse, equitable, and inclusive transplant community that benefits the well-being of both patients and the transplant workforce.
