Older Donors and Older Recipients: Rethinking Risk, Benefit, and Access in Kidney Transplantation

Hosted by the AST Trainee and Young Faculty Community of Practice (TYF COP) and supported by the AST Kidney Pancreas Community of Practice (KPCOP).

Description:

With the aging of both the transplant candidate population and the donor pool, clinicians increasingly face complex decisions regarding organ acceptance, candidate selection, and risk–benefit tradeoffs. Practices vary widely across centers, and clinicians would benefit from a structured framework to navigate these challenges. This webinar will provide a practical, evidence-based, and ethically grounded approach to decision-making in older donors and recipients, with emphasis on real-world clinical application.

Speakers:

  • Sunita Singh, MD – University of Toronto
  • Stefan Tullius, MD, PhD – Massachusetts General Hospital
  • Carrie Thiessen, MD PhD – University of Wisconsin

Moderators:

  • Somaya Zahran, MD, PhD – Transplant Nephrology Fellow, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN
  • Trey Richardson, MD – Nephrology Fellow, Vanderbilt University

This session is hosted by the AST Trainee and Young Faculty Community of Practice (TYF COP), supported by the AST Kidney Pancreas Community of Practice (KPCOP), and approved for expanded marketing by the AST Education Committee.
