In the summer of 2018, I swabbed at a community event to see if I was a match for someone in my area. Although I wasn’t a match for that individual, the organization that ran the drive added me to their registry of potential donors. In January 2020, I went on to donate my kidney to a person I had never met. I later joined TCAC after seeing a call for members on Instagram, hoping to share the living donor perspective and support others on the same journey.
Since my donation, I’ve focused on educating others about living kidney donation and encouraging my community to consider becoming donors. In January 2023, I traveled to Capitol Hill with the AST delegation to advocate for the Living Donor Protection Act.
I aim to advance living donation in the wider community, with a strong emphasis on promoting the community-based model.
