Patient Education Brochures

The American Society of Transplantation (AST) is pleased to provide on-line patient education brochures. These brochures address what patients may expect before, during, and after transplants, including their medications. These brochures have been created for the purposes of informing transplant patients.

Before the operation

After the operation

You will find information about:

  • When your organ stops working
  • Kinds of transplants
  • Why you need the right match
  • Getting a check-up in the transplant center
  • Waiting for your new organ
  • What to expect after the operation

Information will soon be available about:

  • Medicines to keep your new organ healthy
  • Medicines to help you avoid side effects
  • Medicines to help fight infection
  • Making sure you take your medicine the right way

These brochures have been recognized by the National Library of Medicine as an authoritative source of patient information on transplantation, http://medlineplus.gov.

All Patient Education Care articles are stored in Adobe Acrobat (.PDF) files, and require the Adobe Acrobat Reader software application for reading. The application is available for download at no charge, and is available in various formats (stand alone, plug-in) for most of the major operating systems.
