COP EC Position Descriptions and Functions

POSITION DESCRIPTIONS

Most positions serve two-year terms.

Terms begin immediately after the upcoming American Transplant Congress (ATC) and end during another ATC, e.g., a two-year term would start after ATC 2024 and end during ATC 2026.

Co-Chair Position

The Co-Chair is a position with a six-year term (two years each as Co-Chair, Chair, and Past Chair) except for the Trainee and Young Faculty COP. The Co-Chair for that COP is a position with a three-year term (one year each as Co-Chair, Chair, and Past Chair).

Co-Chair

  • Assists the Chair in all aspects of that position.
  • Serves as Chair when the Chair is absent or otherwise unable to perform the Chair duties.
  • Based on mandates received from the Board of Directors, helps Chair to set annual goals and objectives and monitors progress in achieving initiatives.
  • Rotates to the Chair position after two years.

Chair

  • Presides over Executive Committee conference calls and meetings.
  • Works closely with the Staff Liaison on issues affecting the Community of Practice (COP).
  • Reviews, revises, and approves draft agendas and minutes for Executive Committee conference calls and meetings.
  • Based on mandates received from the Board of Directors, sets annual goals and objectives and monitors progress in achieving initiatives.
  • Drafts COP initiative status reports on a quarterly basis or as-needed.
  • Rotates to the Past Chair position after two years.

Past Chair

  • Attends Executive Committee conference calls and meetings.
  • Based on mandates received from the Board of Directors, assists the Chair and Co-Chair in achieving annual goals, objectives, and initiatives.
  • Serves as an advisor to the Chair.

Member-at-Large Position (two-year term) and *Early Career Member-at-Large Position (one-year term)

  • Attends Executive Committee conference calls and meetings.
  • Based on mandates received from the Board of Directors, assists the Chair and Co-Chair in achieving annual goals, objectives, and initiatives.

Please note the Trainee and Young Faculty (TYF COP) and Donation and Transplantation Optimization (DTO COP) currently do not have early career positions within their Executive Committees.


EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE FUNCTIONS

Proposes initiatives

On an annual basis, the Executive Committee will make suggestions to the Board of Directors and/or the Education Committee for new activities that might be undertaken by the community to incorporate into COP Initiatives.

Provides community leadership and serves as the core governance group for the COP

Based on initiatives approved by the Board of Directors, the Executive Committee will:

  • Set annual goals and objectives
  • Develop a work plan
  • Assign responsibilities
  • Monitor progress in achieving goals and objectives
  • Take an active role in contributing to the online community.
  • May serve as Chair to one or more COP work groups.
  • Take an active role in contributing to the online community.

Builds the COP and assesses member needs

  • The Executive Committee reaches out to COP members to serve on work groups established to engage community membership and accomplish strategic initiatives.
  • The Chair will appoint individual Executive Committee Members to the role of leading one or more of the work groups described above.
  • Executive Committee Members will be responsible for the upkeep on the COP Online Community, including posting discussion items, library resources, and other material.
