In Memoriam: David O. Taylor, MD

Tuesday, February 11, 2020

The AST was saddened to hear about the recent passing of David O. Taylor, MD. David was a leader in the field of advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology and a long-time editor of the AST/ASTS joint journal the American Journal of Transplantation. His service to the AJT also included Deputy Editor for the heart transplant portfolio, a role he started in July 2019.  David previously served as chair of the Thoracic Transplantation Committee for the AST, and served as President of the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation.

He spent most of his career at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, where he was professor of medicine and served as director of the Heart Failure and Transplantation Fellowship.  David began his career at the University of Utah where he established himself as an expert in the field of heart transplantation.  Over decades, he published numerous breakthrough articles in heart failure/transplantation.  There are very few of us who have dedicated our entire careers to what we enjoyed most and David was one of them.  David has left a tremendous legacy in the many people he touched and the many fellows that were fortunate to be trained by him.

The AST expresses its deepest condolences to Dr. Taylor’s family, friends, and colleagues.
